     1. The man and the boy hear a dog barking in the distance. How does the boy respond? What does this tell us about him? What do you believe happens to the dog? Why?

     2. The boy is surprised to see another little boy. What does he think of him? What does he want his dad to do about him? What does this tell us about the son?

     3. What is strange about the construction of the paragraph on the top of page 74? Why has the narrator done this? What might it tell us about the world of The Road ?

     4. What do the man and boy come across on page 76? Who may have put this there and why?

     5. Describe the "horde" that passes the man and boy on page 77-78. Why does the man believe this to be a bad sign?

     6. On page 81-82 the trees begin falling all around the man and the boy. What is causing this? Why has the author/narrator chosen to include this?
